The Deadphish Orchestra is a quartet of Colorado musicians who, above all, are close friends who have played music together for many years. They had played Grateful Dead songs together, and they had played Phish songs together. But they got to wondering what would happen if they tried to merge the music of these two bands, the Granddaddies and Daddies of the jamband scene.

While these two bands have their surface similarities, most fans realize that their actual musical styles are quite different. The Grateful Dead are an earthy, folky, bluesy band where Phish is sharper around the edges-funky and more aggressive. But both bands have an improvisational approach to their live shows, and it is in that spontaneity where the magic really happens.

The guys in DPO have posed themselves a unique challenge in merging the two styles. Set lists end up with segues that look like Divided Sky > Morning Dew > Divided Sky, or Help > Slip > Frankenstein. Or how about Mike's Song > Stella Blue > Weekapaug Groove. Or even stranger, like My Friend, My Friend of the Devil...or It Must Have Been The Roses Are Free. You can see that between the vast repertoires of the two bands, the possibilities are endless.

It's just about as much fun as humans are allowed to have, a seamless web of Phish and Dead to split open and melt your face.

Souljam's Will Keehner, Anna Keehner, and John Carpenter met at Pineapple Joe's in Ft. Pierce, FL late in 2014. Attracted to one another by a shared obsession with jam bands, the three came together and added Brandon Putzke on drum set shortly thereafter, playing their first gig in November 2014. In late March 2017, the band added Patrick Williams on drums, with Brandon now playing percussion.

"We've developed our style quickly. Always dedicated to performing and growing as a unit and seeking to deliver the best performance possible for each and every gig.

Once we developed a solid repertoire of cover songs we all liked, we began adding originals written by Anna and John. Both are experienced composers, so there is plenty of material to draw upon.

We play select cover tunes and write and perform our own material as well. Even when we're playing material by other bands and writers, creativity and self expression lie at our core. While we hover within parameters familiar to fans of classic rock or those acquainted with The Allman Brothers, Widespread Panic, and The Tedeschi Trucks Band, we want our listeners to be stimulated by the new and exciting rather than hypnotized by the tried and true."
